Showing us her stubborn side

As most everyone knows our sweet baby girl has been admitted to Primary Children's Hospital with a bad case of RSV. Addy had been coughing and spitting up for a couple days when I took her into the Dr on Friday. The Dr told me that it was from her formula and advised me to put rice cereal into it to help keep it down, I didn't really think that was the issue, but what do you do when they insist it is? So I did as instructed, changed her formula, added rice cereal and the puking stopped for a day until the wee hours of Sunday morning when I fed her the normal feeding and she threw up about three times. This is of course after she would cough so hard she would stop breathing and turn purple. Hubs and I decided we needed to get her into the ER. So away we went to the hospital at about 4:00 a.m. She was admitted to the ER where they put her on oxygen and did an x ray of her lungs. Next thing we knew the Dr told us that they would be transporting her by ambulance to Primary Childrens. We arrived here at PC and I couldn't believe how attentive they all were and were ready for us. They brought my sweet baby in and got her out on the table and she stopped breathing for about 30 seconds. Next little bit was a whirlwind of nurses, techs etc getting iv's in her, oxygen, and all hooked up to everything. She was then given many blood test and another x ray which all showed up to look like RSV. While RSV is going around and many people have it, when a 3 week old baby has it, its pretty scary. They don't have the immunity to fight it off and have a hard time breathing when its present. Anyhow, we are now waiting in the hospital for her to pass this virus and be able to breathe on her own. She has done pretty good but still has breathing spells and eating problems. We hope to be out of here soon, but not too soon.

Words will never be able to express the feeling of seeing your baby struggle to get air. And words will never be able to express how much love and support we have felt from so many many people through this time. We are so grateful for all our families and friends support. It meanst the world to us. We will try to keep everyone posted as we go along.

(Sorry if this is all mumbo jumbo.. I'm on about 2 hours of sleep for the past who knows.. maybe 35 hours or so??) ;)

  1. Oh Jess... I don't envy you one bit. Hang in there. And know that you are in my thoughts and prayers.

p.s. After this is all over, if she does in fact have Acid Reflux, you should try Enfamil AR. It has the rice cereal mixid into it already. We tried that for Deacon and it worked wonders. Better than adding the rice cereal to normal formula. Also the Parent's Choice Brand at walmart sat in his stomach a little better than the name brand AND it's LOADS cheaper!

I hope things get better and better.
